Bupa opens first GP clinic

Healthcare giant Bupa will pay its GPs a fixed salary along with performance bonuses and a slice of billings as it takes its first foray into mainstream general practice.

The company’s first GP clinic opens in the Sydney CBD this month, the first of five or six clinics planned over the next 12 months.

While many within the specialty have complained that practices are forced to adopt bulk billing to compete for patients, Bupa says it will charge $85 for a standard consult.
