A decree that GPs should not be claiming consultation items when providing vaccinations under the National Immunisation Program was a bungle by the Department of Human Services, the AMA says.
A GP registrar who asked the department to clarify the billing rules on vaccines received an unexpected response last week that stated Medicare benefits were “not payable for a consultation if a vaccine is provided under the National Immunisation Program".
