Bypass beats banding for diabetes remission
People with diabetes undergoing bariatric surgery are considerably more likely to experience remission with a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass than with lap banding.
This is the finding of a US observational study of over 600 people with diabetes. It showed that after three years, 69% of those who had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGBP) were in remission from their diabetes, compared with only 30% in the lap banding group.
