Call for action over non-immunised chiros
DOCTORS’ and chiropractors’ groups have called on the Chiropractic Board of Australia to issue clear directives to so-called ‘fundamentalist’ chiropractors on the need to be immunised against communicable diseases, as part of a review of the profession’s code of conduct.
Chiropractic and Osteopathic College of Australasia vice president John Reggars said the board should use the review to make it clear chiropractors who took an anti-vaccination stance must put aside their personal beliefs for the good of their patients.
“At the very least the board should be recommending to chiropractors they should be immunised,” he said.
“Because of the close contact chiropractors have with patients and the sharing of facilities by unrelated patients there is a real risk of contamination.”
