Call for coeliac screening in type 1 diabetes

Children with type 1 diabetes have high rates of coeliac disease and should be tested from the time of diagnosis, according to recommendations from an Australian expert group.

Despite coeliac disease affecting 5% of children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes, until now there have been no evidence-based recommendations on screening frequency, say researchers from the Institute of Endocrinology and Diabetes at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Sydney.
