Call for complementary meds regulation revamp

The TGA needs to be given the power to issue stiffer penalties to companies making dodgy claims over the efficacy and indication for complementary medicines, a landmark review has recommended.

Action is needed because more than 60% of complementary products reviewed by the TGA flouted regulatory requirements by making unsubstantiated claims, according to the Expert Review of Medicines and Medical Devices Regulation delivered to Federal Health Minister Sussan Ley.
