Call to make GP sign-off compulsory for cosmetic procedures
GPs would be asked to sign off on patient requests for invasive cosmetic surgery under a proposal to prevent cowboy operators exploiting the vulnerable.
The plan follows a NSW parliamentary inquiry into the industry after manslaughter charges were laid against two allegedly unregistered health practitioners who performed a breast augmentation on a 35-year-old patient. The patient later died.
