Call to take knee arthroscopy off the MBS

The health care safety and quality commission has backed calls by rheumatologists to remove knee arthroscopy from the MBS because the procedure lacks proven efficacy.

The commission made the recommendation in the latest Australian Atlas of Healthcare Variation, which shows 33,682 people aged 55 years and older were admitted for knee arthroscopies across Australia in 2012-2013.
