Calls to reconsider gastric banding for obese teens

Despite falling out of favour as a treatment for adults, laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding should be considered as a first-line option for adolescents with severe obesity, Australian researchers say.

A SA study of 21 adolescents aged 14-18 who underwent gastric banding between 2009 and 2013 found they had good outcomes up to five years, losing a median of 10kg/m2.
