Cannabis bill tabled
Australia is set to legalise the cultivation of cannabis after Health Minister Sussan Ley introduced legislation to Parliament this week.
The proposed national licensing scheme would allow the cultivation of cannabis for medicinal and scientific use. Products from locally grown crops could be in use as early as next year.
The government has worked with the states and territories and law enforcement agencies for the past two months to ensure the new bill is appealing for both MPs and Senators from all sides of politics to speed up the process, the minister said.
