The case for doxycycline after condomless sex
Men who have condomless sex with men may benefit from post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) with doxycycline.
A Lancet study has found that doxycycline administered within 24 hours after sex reduces the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in high-risk men.
Over 230 high-risk men who have sex with men (MSM) in France were randomised to receive PEP with doxycycline or no PEP. They were using pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV and had a median of 10 partners every two months.
