CDC concerned about march of mosquito-borne disease

THE first local transmission of the virus in the western hemisphere was reported in the Caribbean island of Saint Martin in December 2013 but since then local transmission has been reported in 31 countries or territories throughout the Americas, including the United States.

There was no population immunity, experts from the CDC noted.

The researchers expected at least 30% of the population in areas with local circulation to become infected unless control measures or seasonal factors intervened.
