Censoring the debate: the MBS Review and the FOI papers

Somewhere over the holiday period, work will be continuing on the great MBS Review, that $33 million examination of thousands of items underpinning the funding of the country’s medical care.

It has become a closed, secretive process, despite the doctor leading the taskforce, Professor Bruce Robinson, dean of Sydney University medical school, stressing earlier in the year that it would be open and transparent.

There is still little public information on exactly what items are being examined and for what particular reason — clinical irrelevancy, patient
