The challenges ahead for general practice

THE RACGP is continually looking at strengthening and growing general practice. The past few months have seen much activity around this objective, with strategic planning sessions involving a multitude of people and organisations, all of whom hold a strong and productive general practice sector as critical to the national interest. 

This has provided a powerful, sometimes confronting, opportunity to review both the fundamental and potential challenges and opportunities facing general practice and the college in 2011 and beyond.

As a first step, the college is currently reviewing our definition of general practice. A new draft definition was made available for member comment in March and members’ feedback has allowed us to canvass opinion across our diverse discipline.
