Change of term for vulvovaginal atrophy

International women’s health specialists have agreed to replace the term vulvovaginal atrophy with the term genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM)

They believe this is medically more accurate, all-encompassing, and publicly acceptable way of describing the genitourinary tract symptoms related to menopause, according to an article in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.

The move follows a 2013 consensus
