Chemo funding concerns

Proposed funding reforms to the compounding of chemotherapy are set to leave pharmacists out of pocket and restrict patient access to medication.

At a recent Senate Community Affairs Committee hearing, Independent Senator Nick Xenophon questioned the Department of Health as to why compounding pharmacies will be paid $40 for the compounding of chemotherapy treatments while TGA approved companies will be paid $60.

“This ignores the fact that many of the advanced pharmacists are in regional and rural areas,” Senator Xenophon said
