Children with epilepsy first to access imported medical cannabis

The Victorian Government has stepped in to import medical cannabis for the treatment of 29 children with severe epilepsy, who would otherwise have to break the law to access cannabis.

The cannabidiol oral solution has been obtained from Canadian company Tilray, and will be given to children nominated by their paediatric neurologists because they have multiple seizures daily.

Victorian Minister for Health Jill Hennessy says medical cannabis has been imported because the government does not want to wait until Australian supplies become available later in the year.
