Cloth masks don’t cut it anymore
Cloth masks offer no protection against respiratory diseases and may increase the risk of infection, Australian public health experts say.
A study from the University of NSW cautions against the use of the masks in any healthcare setting. This is because of their poor filtration and propensity to retain moisture, both of which increase the risk of infection.
The researchers recommend infection control guidelines be updated to protect the occupational health and safety of healthcare workers, especially in Asia and West Africa
