Co-pay debate hotting up

The price Australia pays for pharmaceuticals are again being questioned, as debate heats up over patient co-payment costs.

Stephen Duckett, director of health programs at the Grattan Institute, says his team has recently updated its 2013 report ‘Australia’s Bad Drug Deal’, that through the PBS, the Federal Government “pays way more than it needs to for pharmaceuticals — more than New Zealand, more than the province of Ontario in Canada, more than public hospitals in two Australian states”.
