Cochrane study praises pharmacist prescribers
Pharmacists are as good as doctors at prescribing for a range of chronic diseases, a new Cochrane review suggests.
Researchers from Monash University looked at 46 international studies that compared non-medical and medical prescribing to manage diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol in primary and secondary care settings.
In the studies, the prescribers were either pharmacists or nurses whose prescribing was part of a wholistic management approach that also considered lifestyle, diet and exercise.
