Colour blind doctor fears mistakes

A yellow tinge is a dead giveaway that a patient is jaundiced — but what if the doctor can’t see it?

For Dr Navin Dadlani (pictured), who is colour blind, missing a case of jaundice, a red throat, or something more serious is something he is often concerned about.

His own experience has prompted Dr Dadlani, an intern at Adelaide’s Modbury Hospital, to suggest colour blind doctors steer away from certain specialties — including general practice — to minimise risk to themselves and patients.
