And the proportion of mandatory reports being dismissed without further action fell, suggesting a greater number were deemed worthy of further examination, AHPRA said.
From 4709 complaints about doctors from July 2012 to June 2013, up 18% on the previous year, AHPRA said it received 1013 mandatory reports, up 33% on the previous year.
More than half of mandatory reports were about nurses or midwives, at 56%, while 30% of those reports were about doctors. Mandatory reports about doctors jumped from 221 to 299 in the year.
