Complementary meds overhaul

The TGA is powerless to act on dodgy claims for complementary medicines and an overhaul is needed to deliver stiffer penalties and bans for non-compliant companies, a landmark review has recommended to government.

Action is needed because more than 60% of complementary products reviewed by the TGA flouted regulatory requirements by making unsubstantiated claims, according to a Review of Medicines and Medical Devices Regulation delivered to Federal health minister Sussan Ley.
