Concern looms large on long-acting opioids

Patients prescribed long-acting opioids are at a heightened risk of cardiovascular death, especially during the night, compared with those prescribed alternative medications, a large study shows.

As a result of this finding, the authors have issued a warning to doctors to avoid prescribing long-acting opioids whenever possible.
