Concern pharma bill may harm research

The Therapeutic Goods Amendment (Pharmaceutical Transparency) Bill 2013 seeks to ban doctors from attending overseas conferences and from receiving hospitality worth over $100 from pharmaceutical companies.

Breach of the bill would leave the companies open to civil action. The bill would also force companies to report annually on payments to individual doctors including fees, gifts, travel and accommodation, donations and research grants.
