Confusion over VMO payments as audit shows cracks

AMA Council of General Practice chair Dr Brian Morton said VMOs and staff specialists worked hard for their patients but improved accountability would benefit everyone.

“All of us as taxpayers expect some sort of accountability so that patients and the broader community can be satisfied the profession is acting appropriately,” Dr Morton said.

“The question is how we increase that accountability without also increasing red tape and without losing those things that VMOs and staff specialists do over and above what they are being paid
