Consumer group calls for pharmacy deregulation

The Consumer Health Forum of Australia (CHF) has called for the deregulation of pharmacy ownership and location rules, in its recently released submission to the government’s Competition Policy Review.

In its submission, the CHF argued that current pharmacy regulations acted as an impediment to competition, and that “the ownership of large pharmacy brands by Australia’s major pharmaceutical distributors could be contributing to the high price of Australian medicines compared with overseas markets
