COVID-19 sparks novel protection idea
A Victorian pharmacist has come up with a novel way around the shortage of personal protection equipment (PPE) for medical professionals — a Perspex lawnmower face shield.
Highton pharmacy owner Erin Heer uses the shield when administering vaccinations after not being able to source appropriate gear from her usual suppliers.
“I am up close and personal doing vaccines,” Ms Heer told the Geelong Advertiser.
The PSA has reported a surge in demand for pharmacy-based flu vaccinations.
“Doctors’ clinics are sending people here because we are less risk than in waiting rooms.”
Ms Heer is one of many health professionals around the world who are coming up with DIY solutions, including the use of face masks designed for snorkelling.
