CT scans fail to cut deaths from PE

A huge rise in the use of CT to check for pulmonary emboli has not translated into any reduction in deaths from the condition, Australian research finds.

The study, published Monday in the Medical Journal of Australia, showed deaths from pulmonary emboli in WA remained stable from 2002-2010, despite a 65% increase in PE-related radiology requests and a 45% increase in diagnoses.
