Debate continues on life-long record of sanctions

A leading academic has joined calls for a formal review of whether sanctions against doctors should permanently appear on their registration.

The issue made headlines last month after it was revealed hundreds of reprimands against doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other practitioners do not appear on the national register.

In most cases, this was because the reprimands were issued by state disciplinary boards before the start of the national scheme in July 2010,
