Dementia ‘flying squads’ to launch in November

Mobile dementia squads will be introduced next month to help aged care providers manage residents with severe behavioural and psychological symptoms of of the disease.

Aged care facilities will be able to call in the newly formed Severe Behavioural Response Teams if residents with dementia are deemed to be at risk to themselves or others.

Federal Health Minister Sussan Ley (pictured) announced on Thursday that the contract for the $54 million initiative had been awarded to aged care provider HammondCare.
