Denied hospital access: rural GP says govt conditions ‘ridiculous’

After eight years working in rural towns Dr Paul Saad has agreed to take over a practice in the small NSW town of Quirindi when the current owner leaves at the end of the year.

However, Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) has told Dr Saad it would only give him hospital admitting rights if he works for Medical Directions Australia (MDA), the workforce agency that supplies staff to the local state government-run regional health provider, HealthOne.

This is despite the current GP, who is passing his practice to Dr Saad, having admitting rights while remaining independent.
