Diagnostic revamp sees rise in gestational diabetes

The controversial lowering of the diagnostic threshold for gestational diabetes is picking up more at risk women, Australian research shows.

Lowering the fasting glucose threshold for diagnosing gestational diabetes from ≥5.5 to ≥5.1mmol/L was first proposed in 2010 by the International Association of Diabetes Study Group.
The change has drawn criticism for being unnecessary with claims that it would
