Dirty nasal sprays linked to chronic rhinitis

Contaminated steroid nasal sprays may be perpetuating a cycle of chronic rhinosinusitis by patients constantly reinfecting themselves with bacteria, Australian research suggests.

ENT surgeons in Adelaide have shown high rates of cross contamination with pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus that are found on the tips of nasal sprays and also in the patients' nasal cavity.
