Testing for high-risk HPV on self-collected vaginal samples is almost as accurate for finding cervical precancer as those taken by a clinician, a new meta-analysis shows.

In an update to the evidence that should bolster confidence in Austra­lia’s decision to offer self-sampling under the National Cervical Screening Program, the latest studies show PCR-based tests are similarly sensitive in detecting CIN-2/3 and almost as specific in ruling it out. 

The study, which included researchers from Victorian Cytology Service (VCS), also found that women mailed self-sampling kits
