Docs still free to quiz relatives

Doctors will still be able to gather relevant health information from patients’ relatives without their consent in the wake of a decision by the Privacy Commissioner, it was confirmed on Thursday.

One month after the current determination expired the Privacy Commissioner has announced that it has issued a fresh public interest determination that prevents the collection of family and social medical histories to be in breach of the Privacy Act 1988.
