Doctor charged with murder of doctor husband
On Tuesday police were called to a property on Shenton Street in Geraldton, in the state’s mid-west coast region, following reports of a domestic incident.
They found Geraldton Health Campus doctor Dinendra Athukorala, 34, inside a residence with injuries.
Paramedics were called, but Dr Athukorala could not be resuscitated.
His wife was soon questioned over the suspected homicide.
On Friday, police said she had been charged over Dr Athukorala's death and had been remanded in custody.
Chamari Rasika Denuwanthe Gunathilaka Liyanage, 34, appeared in court in the Geraldton Magistrates Court later in the day charged with her husband’s murder.
No plea was entered and she did not apply for bail.
She is due to appear in the Stirling Gardens Magistrate court via video link in Perth on July 16.
Dr Athukorala's family, believed to be Sri Lankan, have been notified.
