Doctor cleared of negligence over ‘sweaty palm’ surgery

Leading Sydney cardiothoracic surgeon Dr David Marshman has been cleared of a professional negligence claim brought by a patient who suffered debilitating side effects after surgery for palmar hyperhidrosis.

Maria Morocz claimed she was not adequately warned that she was not a suitable candidate for the bilateral endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy (ETS) performed by Dr Marshman in February 2007.

Ms Morocz was 39 when she elected to have the procedure to treat her sweaty palms – a lifelong problem triggered by stress which she found inconvenient and
