Doctor 'haunted' after missing signs of abuse before child's murder

Dr Richard Dunstan was found guilty of professional misconduct after the death of a two-year-old patient

A doctor says he has been haunted for more than a decade by the murder of a two-year-old patient after he failed to report repeated signs of abuse to child services.

Dr Richard Dunstan, a Sydney paediatrician, was found guilty of professional misconduct on Monday for not investigating or reporting potential abuse of a child who presented 11 times in a year with bruising, petechiae, black eyes and other injuries.

The child died from head injuries in March 2008. His mother’s boyfriend subsequently pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 27 years
