Doctors challenge Border Force laws in court

A doctors’ group has launched a legal challenge against a clause in the Border Force Act which threatens two-year jail sentences for healthcare workers who speak out about conditions in immigration detention centres.

Dr Barri Phatarfod, a Sydney GP and convenor of Doctors for Refugees, says the case, launched in the High Court of Australia on Wednesday, will challenge the legitimacy of the Border Force Act that came into effect in July 2015.
