Doctors fined $35k for discrimination

A Sydney medical practice and two doctors have been hit with fines totalling more than $120,000 for discriminating against their vision-impaired receptionist.

The Fair Work Ombudsman took legal action against Rocky Holdings, which runs the practice in Liverpool, after it underpaid the employee by more than $20,000.

Originally she was patient of one of the directors Dr Ismail Mohamed, who offered her a job at his practice in December 2009. Aged 18, she suffered retina detachment and cataracts.
