Doctors in last-ditch bid to scupper pharmacist prescribing trial

The AMA is making a last-ditch effort to block Queensland’s pharmacist prescribing trial for UTIs and contraceptives, telling state MPs it will put patient safety at risk.

The organisation’s Queensland president Dr Dilip Dhupelia has written to all state MPs asking them to lobby the health minister to stop preparations for the trial, during which participating pharmacists will prescribe the oral contraceptive pill and antibiotics for uncomplicated UTIs.
