In what doctors describe as a rare medical event, a six-year-old boy has had surgery to remove a pen lid from his urethra.

Doctors don't know how the 1.5cm plastic item came to be in the boy's posterior urethra, describing it in a BMJ case report as a "first of its kind association of posterior urethral valve (PUV) with foreign body".
