Does pubic grooming increase STI risk?

Avid pubic hair groomers are more prone to sexually transmitted infections (STIs) than women and men who prefer to go au naturel.

And those who favour frequent extreme grooming are at even greater risk, research shows.

By contrast, low-intensity groomers are naturally more likely to report pubic lice infestation.

The study of 7600 US adults found that overall, 74% groomed at some point in their lives, 5% had had cutaneous STIs (human papillomavirus, herpes, syphilis, or molluscum contagiosum), and 7% had had secretory STIs (chlamydia, gonorrhea, or HIV).
