Dogs carrying tapeworms a risk to humans

Tapeworms transmitted by dogs still pose a dangerous health threat to humans living in rural Australia, new research shows.

More than 100,000 dogs across the country are infected with hydatid tapeworm (Echinococcus granulosus), especially in Tasmania, despite the state government declaring "provisional eradication" in 1996.
