“We were told that if we gave money to build the clinic, they would supply it with a doctor. The money disappeared into cyberspace and the foundation with it,” recalls Dr Forer, who was born in South Africa and completed her medical training there.

Distraught but not ready to give up on their dream of making a difference, they returned to Australia where their daughter, an intern at Gosford Hospital on the NSW Central Coast, told them about a new philanthropic organisation called the Twice the Doctor Foundation, the brainchild of Dr Rob Baume, a local rheumatologist.
