Doubts AHPRA can handle renewals

WITH the deadline for GPs to renew their registration just around the corner, doctors’ groups remain unconvinced about AHPRA’s ability to manage the process, despite 70% of GPs and specialists having already completed their renewals.

About 65,000 medical practitioners – excluding those in Queensland – are due to renew their registration by next Friday, with about 45,500 having already done so, according to an AHPRA spokesperson.

AMA president Dr Steve Hambleton said he was surprised to hear so many doctors had chosen to renew early.

“The question is, [is AHPRA] going to be able to process the remaining doctors in the last few days?” Dr Hambleton said.
