Drugs in doctor's bag outdated

Many of the drugs in the doctor’s bag are outdated, don’t work and in some cases are dangerous, an emergency physician has warned.

Dr John Holmes, senior staff specialist in emergency medicine at Sunshine Coast Area Hospitals, said it was essential the drugs in the doctor’s bag reflected current best emergency practice.

Writing in Australian Prescriber, Dr Holmes suggested benzylpenicillin should be replaced by ceftriaxone or cefotaxime
