Eating disorder guidelines put family first

Approaches to eating disorders should focus on family-based therapies and psychological therapies, according to new guidelines drawn up by the Royal Australian and NZ College of Psychiatrists.

In the first major update in a decade to evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for eating disorders, the college puts the emphasis on harm-minimisation approaches and treatment in the "least restrictive environment" such as outpatient clinics.
