Eight signs a cancer patient is about to die

Researchers in the US and Brazil have identified eight specific physical and cognitive signs that a cancer patient is likely to die within 72 hours.

They are:

  • Nonreactive pupils;
  • Decreased response to verbal stimuli;
  • Decreased response to visual stimuli;
  • Inability to close eyelids;
  • Drooping of the nasolabial fold;
  • Neck hyperextension;
  • Grunting of vocal cords; and
  • Upper gastrointestinal bleeding.
